The immediate urban environment provides me with the starting point for most of my paintings and prints. The street and waterfront is a collage of images and encounters that are both edgy and full of a primal energy. I often work directly on location, improvising on observed reality using a range of mediums, including acrylics, ink, collage and pastel. Larger works developed in the studio are acrylics on canvas, wood panel or paper.
In my paintings, I am interested in creating a compressed form of reality that has, in its origins, the immediate urban setting. Through direct reconstruction of this observed reality, I hope to make a statement about these conditions.
